To mark International Women’s Rights Day 2026, the General Secretariat of the West African Power Pool (WAPP) organized two days of discussions and capacity-building activities on 9 and 10 March 2026 for the women of the institution. The initiative brought together female staff from the WAPP General Secretariat and the North Core Project Implementation Unit around a shared objective: to highlight the role of women in institutional transformation and strengthen their contribution to WAPP’s sustainable performance.
Held under the theme “Women’s Leadership and WAPP’s Sustainable Performance: Resilience, Managing Mental Load, and Professional Assertiveness in a Changing Environment,” the event was opened by the Director of the Administration and Finance Department, Mr. Ousseynou Sankhare, representing the Secretary General. In his remarks, he praised the unwavering commitment of WAPP women and their essential contribution to the institution’s mission.
The sessions provided an opportunity to address the challenges of women’s leadership in a context of organizational change. Ms. Fatimata Sow, Ambassador of the Women in Energy Network – West Africa (ForWE-WA), emphasized the importance of self-development, mentoring, and skills diversification in women’s professional advancement. For her part, Ms. Amélie Sylviane Koné, Human Resources, Administration and Finance Consultant to WAPP, shed light on the challenges related to resilience, mental load, and professional assertiveness, calling on participants to transform constraints into drivers of action and progress.
The event was also marked by visits from several high-level dignitaries, who commended the initiative and reaffirmed their support for the promotion of women’s leadership within WAPP. At the close of the two-day event, one strong message emerged: at WAPP, women’s leadership is a true driver of transformation, performance, and sustainability.
