Courtesy visit of the WAPP Secretary General to Senelec: Strengthening Regional cooperation and preparing a strategic workshop in Dakar

On 25 February 2026, Mr. Abdoulaye DIA, Secretary General of the WAPP, paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Papa Toby GAYE, General Manager of the Senegalese national electricity company (SENELEC)
Since taking office in December 2024, this was the Secretary General’s first visit to his former company, where he spent 35 years of his career.
During the visit, the Secretary General held discussions with the CEO of Senelec regarding the organization of the high-level training workshop on high-voltage networks that the WAPP is organizing with CIGRE in Dakar, scheduled to take place from 23 to 27 March 2026.

He expressed his appreciation to Senelec for agreeing to handle the logistical arrangements for this important event, which will bring together experts from the electricity companies that are members of the WAPP.

The two leaders also discussed the synchronization of the power systems of the 15 countries and the upcoming launch of the day-ahead energy market.

The Senelec DG reaffirmed its support for the WAPP and pledged to spare no effort in achieving the objectives of sub-regional integration.
Finally, the Secretary General granted an interview to Senelec’s communications unit for the upcoming broadcast of a Senelec program aimed at informing its customers about interconnections.
