The Secretary General of WAPP participates in high-level discussions at the ECOWAS Investment Forum 2024

Tuesday, May 7, 2024

As part of a strategic initiative aimed at promoting investment opportunities and regional development, the Secretary General of WAPP traveled to Lomé, Togo, on April 4th and 5th, 2024, to attend the ECOWAS Investment Forum 2024.

The ECOWAS Investment Forum (EIF) 2024, a flagship event organized by the ECOWAS Investment and Development Bank (EBID) in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Togo and the Government of India through the Exim India Bank, aimed to showcase the immense investment potential of West Africa. The event featured a series of projects and programs covering both the public and private sectors, thus facilitating the establishment of relevant investment partnerships.

The program included engaging panel discussions, B2B meetings, project presentation rooms for electricity and transportation projects to investors, and networking sessions. The Secretary General participated in the second panel discussion focused on infrastructure deficits, emphasizing the mobilization of resources for the development of sustainable infrastructure. He was accompanied in this panel by distinguished personalities, including Christopher Balliet BLEZIRI, Country Manager of the International Finance Corporation - Togo; Suja K. MENON, Deputy Secretary General (Development Partnership Administration-1) at the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi; and Helen Aigbe BRUME, Director of Project and Asset Finance at the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).

Additionally, the Secretary General participated in a meeting organized by the Commissioner with a delegation from the African Export-Import Bank. The discussions focused on the role of ECOWAS in infrastructure development and Afrieximbank's contribution to the region.

The project presentation room for electricity projects to investors was also a highlight, where priority WAPP projects were detailed to visiting investors. This session facilitated constructive dialogue and potential investment opportunities in the energy sector.

The mission concluded with the establishment of several contacts aimed at furthering discussions on infrastructure development within the ECOWAS region. This proactive engagement underscores WAPP's commitment to promoting regional cooperation and sustainable development initiatives across West Africa.
