Wednesday, October 25, 2023

The WAPP Secretariat participated in the closing ceremony of the POLEN training course on energy policy and economics, which started on  September 26, 2023 and ended this Thursday, October 12, 2023, with the awarding of certificates of participation to some thirty auditors (including 11 women) from public, private and civil society institutions in ten francophone countries. The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the opening of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF2023), a demand-driven, result-oriented event aimed at facilitating investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency in the region.

The 2023 edition of this IFDD training course was organised in partnership with the Cape Verde Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), the INGO Enda-Energie and the Cape Verde Centre for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI), which hosted the workshop.

The aim of the training was to provide energy sector stakeholders with the tools they need to develop energy policies and ensure their successful implementation. The main sessions therefore focused on specific energy topics:

- Motives, purpose, approach and tools of energy policy,
- Energy systems and their specificities,
- Planning tools,
- Tools for implementing energy policy,
- Energy and sustainable development,
- Implementation of energy policy.

The last day of the training was dedicated to energy policy in the ECOWAS region. WAPP presented the institution and in particular the regional electricity market. In addition to WAPP, ECREE, the ECOWAS Commission, ECOWREX and ARREC also had the opportunity to present their institutions.
