Legislation

The Distribution and Marketing Committee, which was unable to hold a meeting during 2016, did not participate in the meeting. The meeting was opened by the WAPP Secretary General after a welcome by the Director General of SONABEL. The chairs of the organizational committees were asked to draw up the joint activity report for the year 2016, which they were to present at the meeting of the Executive Council scheduled for 09 November The meeting brought together 4 of the 5 WAPP Organizing Committees:

  • Technical and Operations Committee (CTE);
  • Committee for Strategic Planning and Environment (CPSE);   Finance Committee (FC);
  • Human Resources and Governance Committees (HRCC);

After the welcome of the Director General of SONABEL, the Technical and Financial Partners (PTF) Roundtable of the WAPP North Dorsal Project was opened by the Secretary General of the WAPP.

This round table is the first to be held after the completion of the feasibility study update. The following TFPs participated in the round table: World Bank, AfDB, IDB, EBID, EIB, KfW, AFD, EU. The two consultants, WSP and FICHTNER presented respectively the results of the environmental impact assessment and the feasibility study. It is a 330 kV THT line with a length of approximately 830 km between Nigeria, Niger and Burkina Faso with a link between Niger and Benin.

The line has a controllable impact on the environment and it will eventually transit 900 MW. Its estimated cost is US $ 606 million. In their declarations, the TFPs, while wishing to deepen their reflection on the institutional framework of the project, pledged to finance it. The pledges received amounted to more than US $ 1205 million; A surplus of almost 100%.
